Planet Coaster is a new theme park management sim being developed by Frontier Developments, the original creators of RollerCoaster Tycoon 3. Since developing RCT3, Frontier has broken off from Atari and even though they developed RTC3, RollerCoaster Tycoon World is being developed by a different company.
It seems the general consensus of the internet is that RCTW is currently a horrible game with a ‘Mostly Negative’ user review on Steam at the time of writing. The main reason being that the current systems are either broken or not very good and the graphics seem to only have a nominal improvement. This is likely because the game is currently on its third developer.
In contrast, Planet Coaster provides a true sequel to RTC3 by bringing the theme park simulation into the current generation of gaming. With beautiful visuals and wonderful game design, Planet Coaster seems to be the game RCT fans have been waiting over 10 years for.
The new coaster design tools allow for much more realistic coaster designs that can resemble the real world.
The modular building system allows for amazing structures to be created that create a far more realistic park feel than ever before.
You can pre-order Planet Coaster on the game’s official site for $30. To get into the Alpha and get a copy of the game, it currently costs $75.
